Can I scream yet? I honestly thought that we’d nailed the health issues and then this last week I had my follow up blood test – FAIL!!

My white blood cell count is really low, the doctor asked me “have you had any recent infections or anything wrong with your health?” No, I haven’t! Low white blood cell count can be attributed to many things, and it’s linked to liver and spleen problems – but there are many causes so I’m not even going to worry about it until they test because we all know that worrying over something that may end up being easily fixed won’t help my stress levels.

In the meantime I’m looking at foods that might help increase it, also keeping stress to a minimum and I must avoid people with any kind of illness/sickness as my immunity will be quite low and so I have every chance of picking things up.

So, it would seem that there is the possibility of something extra going on with my health in addition to the liver disease, and I guess there’s a chance it’s somehow related.

The worst part of my visit with the doctor was she said to me “you’re an enigma! I don’t know what is doing all of this! I’m going to have to send you to a specialist to get to the bottom of all of this.” That’s disappointing BUT I do like that she’s big enough to admit early that she’s at a loss and will get me to see someone who has more specialised knowledge. I have to respect her for that, not to mention that it’s kind of exciting being called an enigma hahaha

So, I have an appointment for another abdominal ultrasound which is on Friday coming and then I go see the doctor on the following Tuesday when she will check the results and then refer me onto a specialist. Horrible timing, quite often there are waiting times to get into see a specialist and throw Christmas and New Year into the mix, it looks like I might have to wait a bit. She is most likely going to send me to a Gastroenterologist, though they specialise in the digestive system, they also deal with the liver and spleen.

Fun days ahead – NOT!

Hmmm, I don’t know about a Gastroenterologist, from her language it sounds like she’s got a Proctologist in mind! :lmao:

Do not give up and be your own best advocate. It took 10 days of pain until I spiked a fever, and by then, my appendix was soup. In reality, it was soup by day 3, and I had toxin inside me that long, with no one being able to figure out what was wrong. They were going to make me wait 2 weeks to go see a gyno, and refused to listen, they thought I just had a cyst that burst and it would go away, but obviously it didn’t. In other words, they thought I was a cry baby. I had to be off work for almost a month. If they’d gotten me in that same day, I’d have been off for 2 days. STICK WITH IT, it is worth it!

It’s amazing how they are quick to dismiss things, wow what a hassle that would have been for you, not to mention painful putting up with all of that. I guess if she can’t figure it out, I’m glad she will get me to see someone else, I’ve been with doctors before who waste too much time allowing their ego’s to assume they’ll get to the bottom of it and waste valuable time.
