Cynicalgirl from C for Cynicalgirl is our host for this week’s Fun Monday and being December, we are in the lead up to Christmas which is prompting a common theme to the challenges. This week we’re asked the following:

A big part of many holidays is the music, but none more so than Christmas, whether or not you celebrate. It’s everywhere–on the radio, TV, in the stores. While many of the songs are lovely and happy and a part of the holiday tradition, a few songs just drive you insane after awhile. Especially since they tend to be repeated over and over, day after day.

So, my question is this: What Christmas (or other holiday) song would you prefer never to hear again, and why? It could be one song in particular, or songs by a certain singer, or a version of a song you usually enjoy that grates on your nerves. We promise not to judge. It’s your chance to vent.

If you have a YouTube version of the offenders handy so we can share your pain, all the better.

I don’t have a real problem with Christmas music overall. I prefer something more lively though, some of the really cheesy things that we here that are more modern rather than the old favourites.

Luckily, I don’t watch TV, I avoid the shops as much as possible and I don’t listen to the radio so I don’t get bombarded like so many people do. When I do venture into shops playing the music, I haven’t been overwhelmed by it all so it hardly affects me.

I DO have some that I don’t really like though. I’m not keen on White Christmas, or Silent Night – both can send me to sleep from boredom LOL. I’m not overly keen on “Do they know it’s Christmas” by BandAid – sure I like the idea behind it, but it’s just been overplayed to death!

Thought I’d end this by sharing myself and Stueykins as elves

When my son was little, he LOVED Bing Crosby and “White Christmas”. Had me play it over and over again. How I hate that song…

YOu are so lucky to avoid the non-stop Christmas songs… The 24/7 Christmas station is on one of my favorite buttons and I keep hitting the darned thing inadvertently. Most irritating!!! Can’t wait for December 26th in that regard.

haha omg you have a 24 hour Christmas station? Thankfully we have nothing like that! It will be fine when I do hit the stores to hear the odd thing but as I’m protected mostly I can cope.

  2. I think a lot of Christmas songs suffer from overplaying. Lucky you, to be able to avoid the onslaught. Any day now, it will be nothing but carols on the Muzak at work… eeekkk!

You and Stuey are adorable as elves.

    Thanks for joining in!

You’re right about the overplaying, it’s a real shame they do it because they’re not that bad as songs for a festive season. I’ve got one of those elf things ready with sis and the parents added which makes it even funnier I think, but I’ll throw that on FB closer to xmas.

The elves are rather cute! Like that last leap especially–you have a future in dance? :-) As for some of the holiday music, it does drone on and on and gets played over and over. Good thing we can control what we listen to by staying away from public places at this time of the year.

White Christmas is soooooo over done and not everybody is dreaming of it! Like your elf christmas cheer. Thanks for sharing and happy FM

Ha! Another vote nay for that silly song! Woohoo. My husband loves snow, so occasionally he belts out white Christmas, but he prefers to sing let it snow, because he can just say those 3 words and convey the message. He doesn’t carry the best tune in the world!

  6. Pamela says:

bwaaaaaaa ha ha ha. wonderful end of show!

  7. Pamela says:

ps. I have such sweet memories of White Christmas as it was heard in my house and my dad and mom loved Bing.

  8. chrisb says:

White Christmas is actually a fave of mine (probably showing my age) it sort of brings back childhood memories.

You and Stuey make cute little elves :-D

  9. Gattina says:

I am like you, Christmas songs don’t bother me at all, and they are only played in shops in Belgium, or maybe for a Christmas party. The Christmas carols are in French and they are not played in malls or shops.

  10. I have you down for Fun Monday for next week. :yay:

A few years ago, I couldn’t take another ‘rum-a-pum-pum’ betwixt all the Church Sex Scandals sooooooooooo I created this wee parody – “The Little Bummer Boy.”

Do share it with any friends you think may dig it.

LOL that’s funny! sorry for the late response. It’s timely here in Australia, a lot of the Church groups issued apologies to all who suffered in the abuse etc over the years.
